Prevent Frame Fatigue & Strengthen Your Suspension Mounts

Originally developed years ago for our Type III IFS RCLT HD Race Teams to reinforce the strut towers of V8-powered Ultra4 4Runners, these Strut Tower Reinforcement Rings are designed to handle the toughest of conditions.

The problem: Over time, heavy loads, off-road impacts, and constant suspension cycling cause stress fractures in the thin factory strut towers, leading to frame fatigue and potential failure—especially in high-load applications like:

  • Overlanding with added vehicle weight
  • High-speed desert racing & jumping
  • Slow-speed rock crawling with extreme articulation

The solution: Laser-cut from 3/16″ USA steel, these weld-on plates increase the factory frame thickness from 3mm to 7.75mm, reinforcing a critical area of the front suspension. By distributing loads more effectively, they help prevent cracking and significantly increase frame longevity.

Key Features:

  • Does not interfere with ABS routing bolt hole and bracket
  • Adds 2.5X more material for better load distribution
  • Fits Type II (Prado 90) IFS Frames
  • Designed for the toughest off-road conditions
  • Sold as a pair (one for each side)

Why risk a $1,000+ frame repair when you can reinforce your suspension for just $30–$35? This simple reinforcement provides big protection against long-term suspension stress.

Install Instructions

Step 1. Remove the 3 nuts (and washers) from the top of the frame.

Step 2. Position Ring onto frame to get an idea of weld area. For the 2003+ Type III/IV Ring (p/n MCAR-02-0001), position the flat edge facing out as shown.

Step 3. Remove ring, then using a flapper wheel or sand paper, remove paint from surrounding area. Recommended: Prior to welding, paint top of tower and bottom of ring with weldable Steel-It spray paint for maximum corrosion resistance.

Step 4. Position Ring onto frame and torque all three nuts to 33 lb-ft (lubricated) or 45 lb-ft (dry).

Step 5. Cover surrounding parts with a fire resistant welding blanket and apply anti-spatter weld spray to the weld area.

Step 6. Stitch-weld the outer and side faces, as well as the inner diameter of the ring to the frame.
Step 7. After the frame has cooled, clean grease and/or oil from the area and then spray paint to prevent corrosion.

Additional Notes

Our rings are designed to sit flush and to not interfere with factory ABS and wiring harness mounts. Torquing all nuts prior to weld will close any gaps as shown at right.

If your frame is already damaged, it must be repaired to ensure the strut assembly and reinforcement rings sit flush. Toyota still offers replacement strut/shock tower assemblies, but at $700 per side, the cost doesn't stop there. Proper replacement requires cutting the old tower off, then properly re-aligning and fully welding the new one in place—a job that demands cab (or full body) removal, engine removal, and extensive shop labor. Prevent the headache with our reinforcement rings before frame fatigue becomes a costly disaster!
