These are RCV’s new more durable boots everyone has been waiting for!
Relief is finally here to the never ending BTSD (boot traumatic stress syndrome). After waiting over two years for RCV to address their paper-thin boot issues, they went back to the drawing board and have come up with these much more flexible, much more durable, and best of all longer lasting outer CV boots.
Major kudos to RCLT HD customer Chris Rosa for working with RCV in developing and testing these new boots!
Because RCLT HD has more articulation performance than other kits on the market, this is GREAT news for our customers who have found the former “High Temp” boots just didn’t cut it.
Replacement boot kit designed to fit the Toyota RCLT HD high clearance suspension. This RCV High Pliant Boot Set only fits RCV IFS CV joints.
This Set (pair of boots + hardware) Includes:
- 2x RCV High Pliant Boots
- 4x CV Boot Straps (clamps) (2 large + 2 small)
- 2x Axle Inner Snap Rings
Due to the limited space from suspension components, RCV’s CV boots are designed for high clearance in Toyota applications to make room for aftermarket shocks as well as the unique inverted lower control arm design of RCLT HD. Because of this design, additional strain can be seen on the first few CV boot bellows. Therefore, proper installation of this boot for optimal performance requires the boot to be compressed or “scrunched-up” before clamping to the axle shaft. This total length measurement of the boot is optimal at 4.4″ in length from edge-to-edge.
Note: A Banding Tool is required to tighten RCV’s included bands. We recommend this Lisle 30800 (Amazon link) or similar CV Boot Clamp Pliers. Alternatively, if you have sufficient clearance, you may use worm-drive stainless-steel hose clamps with a smooth band design to prevent cutting the boot. Useful for a reusable, adjustable, and easy to re-tighten trail-repair solution. Large band example: 4-4.5″, and Small band example: 1.25-2″ clamp sizes (McMaster links) – however, these may not work on RCLT HD installs as described below.
For RCLT HD installs:
- Large Clamp—Worm-drive hose clamp will not fit. This is due to our proper geometry of locating the lower ball joint as close to the axle centerline as possible, resulting in limited clearance around the large boot strap. Therefore, you must use the provided low-profile large boot straps that RCV includes.
- Small Clamp—Worm-drive hose clamp will fit, but with the following caution: Due to our high ground clearance inverted lower control arm design that nests the axle shaft into the center of the lower control arm during up travel, a worm-drive hose clamp can be used on the smaller axle-side boot strap so long as you ensure it does not interfere with the lower coil over hardware. Generally, if you installed RCLT HD via the “Easy” method (Options A/B/C, ref: Page 34 of Installation Guide), then a worm-drive on the smaller hose clamp will work thanks to the limited up-travel. Double-check clearance here prior to going wheeling.
In conclusion, regardless of what band choice you go with, double-check space around each clamp or worm-drive mechanism to ensure there is no interference before driving the vehicle. If worm-drive hose clamps do not work, stick with RCV’s low profile bands and use a banding tool.
