This is our ARB and Zip Air Locker 4cyl Bearing Conversion Kit featuring two high quality Japanese-made KOYO bearings!
Background
When ARB designed the first Toyota Air Locker back in the 1990s, it was designed for the 6-cylinder 8″ differential which uses 50mm ID carrier bearings. The Zip Air Locker is based on this same design.
Why this is needed
When you purchase an Air Locker for your 4-cylinder 8″ differential, you’ll also need a matching 4-cylinder ring & pinion setup kit. This 4cyl setup kit will come with 45mm ID carrier bearings. While these bearings are proper for a 4cyl, they will not fit onto the Air Locker carrier.
The solution
Therefore, this kit includes two carrier bearings that have the larger 6cyl 50mm ID required for the Air Locker carrier, but with a smaller 80mm OD correct for a 4cyl third member.
TL;DR
Any 8″ Air Locker (ARB or Zip), including the one made for the 80-series 8″ High Pinion, may be installed into a 1979-95 4cyl 8″ differential by using our Bearing Conversion Kit!
