BigMike's 2016 Tacoma now has over 35,000 miles of daily driving and off-road wheeling with RCLT HD + 40" tires (never been trailered). • MarRack Heavy Duty Steering Rack
The MarRack is a central component of RCLT HD and our Patent would not be complete without it.
The late-model 2003+ Toyota IFS System uses a light-duty rack & pinion that uses light-duty "fused" inner tie rods. These light duty components are known to fail with 34" tires, and because 35" is the entry point into Rock Crawling, by definition your steering system MUST be upgraded if you wish to off-road without failures. This is where the MarRack comes into play.
The MarRack is the first Heavy Duty Steering System that integrates with Long Travel in a way never previously done before. By using a 54% more massive and seriously heavy-duty steering rack, we custom designed the first Rock Crawling Steering and Long Travel Integrated System with new & improved geometry designed for lifted applications & focused on maximum strength. Our unbreakable double-sheer CNC billet steering arms provide 15% more steering power while reducing steering effort by the driver by 15%. Moreover, this unique design decreases stress acting on steering components from objects encountered on the trail. A serious win-win! Finally, the MarRack enables our knuckles to be pushed forward more than double any other Toyota LT for unparalleled Rock Crawling IFS performance!
So exactly what is the MarRack?
The MarRack was originally designed from the strongest Koyo Seiko steering rack used on a non-commercial vehicle and was meant to be a 100% custom & bolt-in Marlin Crawler product. We sent RCLT HD designs to Japanese and US rack manufactures but ultimately could not make a MarRack at a competitive price point. As a result, the design of RCLT HD was carefully altered to allow a Toyota-based solution to work which is internally known as the "MarRack 2.0", now sourced from a 200-series Land Cruiser. Compared to a 2nd gen Tundra rack, the MarRack is stronger, larger, has an increased cooling capacity, and has three frame mounts instead of two. Best of all, the MarRack never needs to be narrowed or shortened because RCLT HD has its own geometry!

Compared to other LT setups, the $330 to $500 MarRack is the only new expense required. Should you desire to refresh the MarRack after say 100,000 miles of trouble-free rock crawling, you don't have to pay extra for a special narrow or custom tig-welded rack; You simply order one from anywhere, re-use our simple parts to modify it, and install.
The remaining two parts are standard required parts for any Long Travel Kit or Solid Axle Swap conversion.

Tools required to install RCLT HD include a welder, grinder, drill, and simple hand tools. The total amount of welding is only around 25" inches of weld and can be done with home garage welders. RCLT HD Installation Instructions
Frequently Asked QuestionsUpdated: 6/11/21
RCLT HD is designed for use with 2.5" diameter Coil overs typically used on +2.00" & +3.50" Long Travel setups, specifically with a 16.5" collapsed, 24.5" extended, and 8" stroke lengths and a lower mount designed for 1/2" hardware and 1.5" mounting width. Longer or shorter coil overs may be used at the expense of either less up-travel or less down-travel, respectively.
Body and/or Bumper Clearancing
Because RCLT HD repositions your front tires forward 2-inches for an industry-best and patent-pending Long Travel IFS approach angle, you must take into consideration any new tire-to-body, tire-to-fender, and/or tire-to-bumper interference. Depending on your tire size and ride height, another use for a bump stop in such case may be to specifically limit up-travel to avoid tire interference (see Bump Stop section below). However, the high performance nature of RCLT HD begs to be fully realized in which case, just as with a Solid Axle Swap, proper tire clearancing is always recommended to achieve the full range of suspension articulation & steering performance!
Coil Spring Rates
Within the confinements of RCLT HD being a near bolt-on system, it is strong enough to handle anything thrown its way. Due to use preferences ranging from Rock Crawling, Baja, Sand, Mud, Snow, to Overlanding, as well as vehicle configurations from heavier 8cyl SUVs with full plate armor and coil rear suspension to lighter 4cyl single cabs with tube bumpers and leaf springs, there is no one-spring-rate-fits-all solution. The answer to what spring rate is right for you depends on how your vehicle is configured and how you plan to use RCLT HD. You may find yourself tinkering with the spring rate to dial it in to suit your needs.
Additional consideration applies to your rear suspension setup. The goal for Rock Crawling would be to have the front and rear suspension complement one another, whereby the front spring rate is not too high that it causes the rear suspension to be over-worked. Keep in mind that leaf springs are a progressive rate spring that increases with compression.
Please use the following as a general guideline to base your decision with. This information is a work-in-progress and is only meant as a suggestion. As we collect feedback data from customers, we will adjust values as needed:

Short answer: Replacement Low Profile Bump Stops (included with kit) may be reused with the original factory frame mount bracket resulting in decreased up-travel. Fitting adjustable air bump bump stops are preferred for best performance and adjustability.
Long answer: RCLT HD's Lower Control Arm (LCA) has two patent-pending features beneficial to Rock Crawling: (1) Inner V-groove for axle shaft clearance & protection and (2) Inverse arm design to maximize ground clearance. These features, however, limit compatibility with the factory bump stop frame bracket because the top of the LCA is closer to the frame resulting in prematurely bump stop activation and decreased up-travel.

RCLT HD is not compatible with factory-style sway bars including the Toyota K.D.S.S. system.
Our Lower Control Arms do have behind-the-axle Secondary Shock Mounts which could be used with a custom fitted behind-the-axle type swaybar (see LCA sway bar examples such as a 2nd gen Tundra or 100- & 200-series Land Cruisers).
Toyota Safety Sense on 2018 and newer vehicles
All products on this website are intended for Off-road use. RCLT HD prides itself in highly stable geometry resulting in superior drivability compared to other lifted Long Travel setups that reuse factory knuckles. Please be aware that if you alter the height of a vehicle equipped with Toyota Safety Sense (MY 2018+) then you may need to recalibrate your vehicle's dynamic radar cruise control, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, and lane tracing assist. Please ask your dealer or contact Toyota Motor Corp. for details.
While RCLT HD is fully compatible with all traction control systems, please bear in mind that a lifted vehicle on larger than stock tires will result in a higher center of gravity that may cause your traction control system to be more active than stock at heavy-acceleration low-speed sharp-cornering during city driving.
Wheel backspacing should be limited to 4.50" or less. This is due to 1) The oversized Heavy Duty design of the RCLT HD Knuckle, 2) Larger than stock Long Travel Coilover diameters, and 3) Wider than stock tires desirable for increased off-road traction (i.e. 12.5" or 13.5" wide tires compared to only 10.5" wide stock tires).
Here are two examples we've tested: 12.5" wide tires on 17x8.5" wheels with 4.5" backspacing results in roughly 1/2" clearance between tire sidewall and knuckle, and 13.5" wide tires on 17x9" wheels with 4" backspacing results in roughly 3/8" clearance.
If you are partial to 4.75" backspace wheels, then you could try using simple 1/4" spacers to test for wheel-to-knuckle clearance. These are available by many manufactures and can be had for $9 on Amazon. We tested these exact spacers on our V2 prototype and had no problems.
RCLT HD's steering geometry requires a minimum wheel diameter of 17-inch. Therefore, 15- & 16-inch wheels are not compatible.
Three silver linings to this are that 1) Off-road wheel distribution websites shows on average 40-times more 17" beadlock choices than 16", 2) Tire distribution websites list nearly no inch-sized tires (33"/35"/37"/39"/40") available for 16-inch wheels, and 3) Tacoma owners will be able to upgrade to 5th gen 4Runner or Lexus GX460 2010+ brake rotors (23% larger diameter & 28% thicker) and 2010-2015 brake calipers (28% larger piston volume).
