In 1986 Toyota switched from it's solid front axle to an IFS front suspension system. This was done because market research indicated people wanted a more car-like ride and were using their 4WD vehicles less and less off road. With the emerging sport of Off Road Rock Crawling, it's now common to take a newer style truck with all it's creature comforts and install the indespensable 1979-85 Solid Front Axle.
