Transmission Specification

L45 4 Speed
L50, L52 & L52HD 5 Speed

The L45 is very similar to the L50/52 transmission without the 5th gear components. It is possible to upgrade to a 5-speed by just adding the missing parts. The L50 and L52 are identical on the outside with only minor changes on the inside. All of these transmissions, unlike the L43, have a cast iron, integrated, non removable bellhousing.

  • 1981-1982, L45, 4 Speed
  • 1981-1982, L50, 5 Speed
  • 1983, L52, 5 Speed
  • Uses Type 1-A top shifting transfer case

For heavy duty applications we offer our Exclusive L52HD. Invented by Marlin himself, we start with a L-series transmission housing and line bore it to accommodate larger main shaft bearings. A completely rebuilt, late model G54 gear set (1985-1988) is installed into the modified L-series cast iron housing, including the larger G series bearings. This upgrade is ideal for those that want to upgrade to a late style, stronger transmission but don't want the added length. The L52HD is a bolt-in replacement for L45, L50 and L52 transmissions.
