4Speed The L43 was
the first transmission used in the US spec 4WD Hilux
truck. Originally designed as a 2WD transmission,
it was upgraded to a 4WD style transmission by using a unique
aluminum adapter to accommodate a transfercase
at its rear. Unlike other L-series 4WD transmissions, the front
the L43 has an aluminum bell housing that unbolts from the cast
steel center section. This transmission is shifted from the
right (passenger) side.
